Introduction
Echoes: Your Life Story is developed by MavDock. This Privacy Policy explains how Echoes accesses, processes, stores, protects, and shares information when you use Echoes.
Echoes is a private memory timeline app for Android. Echoes helps you save photos, titles, descriptions, dates, places, people tags, categories, stories, reminders, and backups for your personal memories.
Echoes is designed to work locally on your device. MavDock does not operate a backend server for Echoes memories, does not create user accounts for Echoes, and does not collect, sell, share, or transmit your personal memory content through Echoes.
Information Echoes Handles
Echoes may store information that you choose to save or create inside Echoes, including:
- Memory titles
- Memory descriptions
- Memory dates and optional times
- Photos selected by you
- Photo thumbnails generated by Echoes
- Categories
- People names or tags added by you
- Location names entered by you or detected from selected photo metadata
- Optional latitude and longitude found in selected photo metadata
- Favorite status
- Story viewed status
- Notification history shown inside Echoes
- Backup and restore metadata
- App settings such as theme, app lock setting, and display name
Echoes uses this information only to provide Echoes features, such as saving, viewing, searching, organizing, reminding, backing up, restoring, and displaying your personal memories.
Photos and Photo Metadata
When you choose photos, Echoes uses Android’s Photo Picker or system file access to read only the photos you select.
Echoes may read embedded photo metadata to suggest:
- Date
- Time
- Location coordinates, if present in the photo metadata
- A readable location name, if available inside the photo metadata
On Android 10 and later, Echoes may request ACCESS_MEDIA_LOCATION only to read the original selected photo’s embedded location metadata. Echoes does not use this permission to track your live location.
Echoes does not request ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION or ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION for photo metadata. If no location is found in a photo, you can add a location manually.
No Live Location Tracking
Echoes does not track your real-time location.
Location information in Echoes comes only from:
- Location text you manually enter
- Embedded metadata inside photos you select
Echoes does not monitor your movement, background location, or GPS position.
Local Notifications
Echoes may send local reminders for saved memories if notification permission is granted.
Notifications may include reminders such as:
- Yearly reminders
- Weekly memory look-back reminders
- Backup reminders when new memories have not been backed up
These notifications are generated locally on your device. Echoes stores notification history locally so you can view reminders inside Echoes.
Echoes does not upload memory data or notification history to MavDock servers to create these notifications.
App Lock and Device Authentication
If you enable app lock, Echoes uses Android’s biometric or device credential system, such as fingerprint, face unlock, PIN, password, or pattern where available.
Echoes does not receive or store your fingerprint, face data, PIN, password, pattern, or device unlock credentials. Authentication is handled by Android.
Backup and Restore
Echoes lets you manually export and restore your memories.
A backup may include:
- Memory database content
- Photos
- Thumbnails
- Categories
- People tags
- Notification history
- Search history
- Backup metadata
If you choose to protect a backup with a password, Echoes encrypts the backup file. Echoes cannot recover this password if you forget it.
Backup files are created only when you choose to create them. If you share or store a backup outside Echoes, that external location or app is responsible for its own privacy and security.
On-Device Storage
Echoes stores memory data on your device using Echoes’ local database and private Android app storage.
This may include memory records, selected photos, thumbnails, categories, people tags, location text, photo metadata saved for memory features, notification history, backup metadata, and app settings.
MavDock cannot remotely view, retrieve, restore, or delete locally stored Echoes memory content. You control this data through Echoes, Android settings, or your device storage controls.
Data MavDock Does Not Collect or Sell
MavDock does not collect personal memory content through Echoes.
MavDock does not sell your personal data.
MavDock does not collect:
- Your memories
- Your photos
- Your location
- Your people tags
- Your search history
- Your notification history
- Analytics
- Advertising identifiers
- Device identifiers
- Crash reports through a third-party service
- Usage tracking data
Echoes does not use memory content for advertising, profiling, analytics, or data brokerage.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
Echoes does not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs for collecting memory content.
Echoes does not use memories, photos, people tags, location entries, search history, or notification history for advertising, tracking, profiling, analytics monetization, or data brokerage.
Google Play, Android, and device manufacturers may process limited technical, purchase, crash, diagnostic, or installation information according to their own policies and settings.
Internet and Cloud Usage
Echoes is designed as an offline-first app. Echoes does not require a MavDock cloud account and does not use a MavDock backend server for memory storage.
Echoes does not make external API calls for your memories.
Echoes may connect to Google Play for app distribution, licensing, purchases, updates, billing, and platform services. Google processes information for those services under its own privacy policy and terms.
Payments and Purchases
If Echoes offers paid features, purchases are processed by Google Play.
MavDock does not directly receive or store your full payment-card details. Purchase processing, refunds, payment authentication, and related transaction handling are managed by Google Play according to Google’s own policies.
Echoes may store a local purchase or entitlement state on your device so premium features can be unlocked after purchase or restore.
App Permissions and System Access
Echoes may request permissions or system access only when needed for app features.
Depending on your device and Android version, this may include access needed to select photos, read selected photo metadata, show local notifications, use biometric or device credential app lock, or import/export backup files.
Android displays system permission prompts where required. You can revoke permissions or system access in your device settings.
Data Sharing
Echoes does not share your personal memory content with MavDock or third-party services.
Data may leave Echoes only when you choose to perform an action such as:
- Sharing a memory image
- Exporting a backup
- Restoring from a selected backup file
- Saving a backup outside Echoes
- Sending information through another app yourself
- Completing a purchase through Google Play
When you share a memory, the selected share target may receive the image and visible memory details included in that shared image. Echoes does not control how other apps handle data after you share it.
When you use Google Play, cloud storage, file managers, email apps, share sheets, or other third-party apps, those services handle data according to their own privacy policies.
Data Retention and Deletion
Echoes data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app storage, uninstall Echoes, or otherwise remove it through Android/device storage behavior.
You can delete data by deleting individual memories, removing photos from memories, clearing notification history, using Delete all data in settings, or uninstalling Echoes.
If you exported backups or shared memory images, those files may remain wherever you saved or sent them.
Children’s Privacy
Echoes is not directed to children under 13.
MavDock does not knowingly collect personal information from children through Echoes. Because Echoes does not collect memory content on MavDock servers, memory content remains on the user’s device.
Parents or guardians should review any memories, photos, or shared content added to Echoes by minors.
Data Security
Echoes uses Android app-private storage and a local database to store your memories on your device.
Security also depends on your device lock, Android security settings, exported backup locations, and whether backups are protected with a strong password.
No app, device, or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Echoes is designed to reduce privacy risk by keeping memory data local.
Third-Party Services
Echoes may rely on Google Play and Android platform services for app distribution, purchases, licensing, updates, billing, file access, photo selection, sharing, and device-level functionality.
These services are provided by Google and are governed by Google’s own privacy policies and terms. MavDock is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services, apps, or platforms.
Changes to This Policy
MavDock may update this Privacy Policy as Echoes, its features, legal requirements, or platform requirements change.
When changes are made, the effective date will be updated. Material changes may also be communicated through Echoes where appropriate.
