Introduction
WayBack: Save Places is developed by MavDock. This Privacy Policy explains how WayBack accesses, processes, stores, protects, and shares information when you use WayBack.
WayBack is an Android app for saving places you want to remember. It is designed to store your saved locations, notes, photos, reminders, collections, place tasks, and visit history on your device.
Information WayBack Handles
WayBack may process information you enter, choose, or generate while using WayBack, including:
- Saved place names
- Latitude and longitude coordinates
- Addresses and area names
- Landmarks, notes, and directions
- Collections, icons, and collection names
- Favorite-place state
- Photos you add to saved places
- Google Maps links or shared text you choose to import into WayBack
- Place tasks, checklist items, checklist templates, and completion state
- Temporary-place expiration settings
- Location reminder settings, including reminder text, trigger type, radius, enabled or paused state, and last-triggered state
- Automatic visit history, where enabled, including arrival time, departure time, visit source, and detection radius
- Nearby-distance settings, distance units, duplicate-warning radius, theme, onboarding state, and app-lock setting
- Local backup and restore data when you choose to create or restore a backup file
- Local backup reminder state
WayBack uses this information only to provide its saved-place, nearby-place, reminder, checklist, visit-history, collection, backup, restore, and app-lock features.
Location Access
WayBack requests foreground location only when needed for features such as adding your current location, refreshing nearby saved places, sorting saved places by nearby distance, or updating a saved place’s coordinates.
While you are using WayBack, WayBack may temporarily cache your current location during the active app session so nearby places and distance labels can refresh without repeatedly requesting a fresh location every moment.
WayBack does not use your location to build a continuous movement timeline unless you choose to enable automatic visit history for saved places.
Background Location, Reminders, and Visit History
WayBack may request background location only for user-enabled location reminders, arrival checklist prompts, or automatic visit history. These features use Android geofencing to detect when you arrive near, stay near, or leave a saved place.
WayBack does not sell, share, or upload your background-location events to MavDock servers. Background location is used on your device to trigger reminders, show checklist prompts, and record visit history where you have enabled those features.
You can pause or delete reminders, turn off automatic visit history in WayBack, or revoke location access from Android settings.
Local Notifications
WayBack may send local notifications for location reminders you create.
WayBack may also send local notifications for checklist prompts, visit-history updates, and offline backup reminders. Offline backup reminders are used only to remind you to create a local backup when saved places have changed since your last backup.
On Android 13 and newer, WayBack asks for notification permission before creating reminders or showing notifications that require notification access.
Reminder notifications and checklist prompts are generated on your device. WayBack does not upload reminder content, checklist content, or location events to MavDock servers to create notifications.
Photos
WayBack uses Android Photo Picker when you add photos to a saved place. WayBack does not request broad storage access for your entire photo library.
Photos you add are copied into WayBack’s private app storage and compressed for place-reference use. WayBack is not designed as a photo backup or photo library app.
Photos remain on your device unless you export or share them through a feature you choose to use.
Collections and Saved Places
WayBack lets you group saved places into collections such as Family, Friends, Work, or collections you create yourself.
Collection names, icons, and links between places and collections are stored locally on your device.
Place Tasks, Checklists, and Temporary Places
WayBack lets you add tasks or checklist items to saved places and create reusable checklist templates. These task names, completion states, and templates are stored locally on your device.
If a saved place has incomplete tasks, WayBack may show a local checklist reminder when you arrive near that place, if the required notification and location permissions are granted.
WayBack also lets you save temporary places, such as short-term parking locations. Temporary places may include an expiration time selected by you. Expired temporary places may be removed by WayBack as part of local app maintenance.
App Lock and Device Authentication
If you enable app lock, authentication is handled by Android using biometrics or your device screen lock, such as PIN, pattern, or password.
WayBack does not receive or store your fingerprint, face data, PIN, pattern, password, or device unlock credentials. Authentication is handled by Android.
Backup and Restore
WayBack can create encrypted local backup files that include your saved places, collections, reminders, visit history, place tasks, checklist templates, and place photos.
If you choose to protect a backup with your own password, that password is used to protect the backup file. MavDock cannot recover forgotten backup passwords.
Backup files are saved only where you choose to save them. If you move a backup file to cloud storage, email, a file manager, or another app, that service handles the file according to its own privacy policy and settings.
On-Device Storage
WayBack stores saved places, photos, collections, reminders, visit history, tasks, checklist templates, backup state, and preferences on your device when needed to provide its features.
WayBack does not upload your saved places, location coordinates, photos, notes, reminders, visit history, collections, tasks, checklist templates, or app settings to MavDock servers.
MavDock cannot remotely view, retrieve, restore, or delete locally stored WayBack place data. You control this data through WayBack, Android settings, or your device storage controls.
Google Maps Link Import and Internet Use
WayBack does not require a MavDock cloud account, Firebase, a Maps API key, an in-app map SDK, or a MavDock server connection to save places.
WayBack uses internet access only for limited user-initiated features, such as importing a Google Maps link. When you paste or share a Google Maps link into WayBack, WayBack may connect to Google Maps or Google link-redirection services to resolve the link and read available place information such as coordinates, place name, or address.
WayBack may also use Android’s geocoder or location provider to help prefill an address from coordinates.
Google Maps link import is optional and happens only when you choose to import or share a map link into WayBack. MavDock does not receive, store, or process these imported links on MavDock servers.
Google, Android, Google Play services, your device manufacturer, your browser, installed map apps, or other third-party apps may process technical information or map-related requests according to their own privacy policies and settings.
Sharing, Navigation, and Third-Party Apps
When you tap Navigate or Share, WayBack may open Android share sheets, installed map apps, browsers, or other apps you choose.
Information may leave WayBack only when you choose an action such as sharing a location, opening navigation in another app, importing a Google Maps link, exporting a backup file, restoring a backup file from another location, or saving a backup through Android’s file picker.
When you use Android share sheets, file managers, installed map apps, cloud storage apps, browsers, or other third-party apps, those services handle data according to their own privacy policies.
Data MavDock Does Not Collect or Sell
MavDock does not collect your saved-place list, coordinates, notes, photos, reminders, visit history, collections, tasks, checklist templates, or backup contents through WayBack.
MavDock does not sell your personal data.
MavDock does not use WayBack data for advertising, profiling, analytics monetization, or data brokerage.
Analytics, Advertising, and Tracking
WayBack does not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs for collecting saved-place, location, reminder, photo, task, checklist, or visit-history data.
WayBack does not use your saved places, coordinates, photos, reminders, tasks, checklist templates, or visit history for advertising, tracking, profiling, analytics monetization, or data brokerage.
Google Play, Android, and device manufacturers may process limited technical, crash, diagnostic, installation, purchase, or platform-service information according to their own policies and settings.
Payments and Purchases
If WayBack offers paid features, purchases are processed by Google Play.
MavDock does not directly receive or store your full payment-card details. Purchase processing, refunds, payment authentication, and related transaction handling are managed by Google Play according to Google’s own policies.
WayBack may store a local purchase or entitlement state on your device so premium features can be unlocked after purchase or restore.
App Permissions and System Access
WayBack requests permissions only when needed for app features.
Depending on your device and Android version, WayBack may request foreground location, background location, notification permission, photo picker access, internet access for map-link import, and biometric or device-credential authentication through Android.
WayBack may also use Android boot or app-update events to restore local geofence reminders after your device restarts or WayBack is updated.
You can revoke permissions in Android settings. Some WayBack features may become limited or unavailable if required permissions are denied or revoked.
Data Retention and Deletion
WayBack data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app storage, uninstall WayBack, restore a backup that replaces existing data, or otherwise remove it through Android or device-storage behavior.
You can delete saved places, reminders, photos, collections, and checklist items in WayBack where those controls are available. Clearing WayBack’s app storage or uninstalling WayBack removes locally stored app data from the device according to Android behavior.
Temporary places may be removed automatically after their selected expiration time.
Children’s Privacy
WayBack is not directed to children under 13.
MavDock does not knowingly collect personal information from children through WayBack. If you believe a child has provided personal information to MavDock, please contact MavDock.
Data Security
WayBack is designed to keep saved-place data on your device and to protect backup files with encryption. However, no app, device, file, or storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
You are responsible for keeping your device, Android account, screen lock, and backup files secure.
Third-Party Services
WayBack may rely on Google Play and Android platform services for app distribution, updates, device location, geofencing, notifications, file picking, photo picking, geocoding, Google Maps link handling, and device-level functionality.
These services are provided by Google, Android, device manufacturers, or third-party apps you choose to open. They are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. MavDock is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services, apps, or platforms.
Changes to This Policy
MavDock may update this Privacy Policy as WayBack, its features, legal requirements, or platform requirements change.
When changes are made, the effective date will be updated. Material changes may also be communicated through WayBack where appropriate.
